12/5/2023 0 Comments Astro a50 ps5Should your headset be old or crappy or nonexistent, though, I locked down six trusty models that are definitely compatible with PlayStation’s 3D audio. From what I understand after speaking to Sony and headset company reps, as long as it’s a relatively new headset, you should be good to go-and the better the headset, the clearer the 3D audio sounds. So, taking into consideration the fact that the Tempest Engine inside the PS5 is doing all the work, does that mean all headsets, headphones, or even earbuds will output those juicy immersive sounds? I wish I could confirm that for you. Here’s the (confusing) FAQ: “Players can.experience 3D audio on PS5 with a PS5-compatible headset that you may already own, either through the console’s USB connection, or by plugging an analog headset into the DualSense wireless controller’s 3.5mm headset jack.” Hmm. The thing is, Sony has been a bit coy about which headsets, exactly, are compatible with this tech. And though the tech is not quite available on TVs yet (Sony confirmed that’s in the works), there are a number of headsets that let you enjoy this 360-degree experience right now. ![]() Dolby Atmos, for example, has provided “surround sound” to televisions and home theaters and even smartphones for years now. As I said, this sort of "3D" technology exists already. You know when a movie is about to start, and that no cellphones message where you can hear chatter all around plays, as if you’re sitting in a room of a thousand phone calls at once? That’s what Sony is trying to achieve with its new Tempest Engine, which is a processing chip in the PS5 tower solely devoted to maximizing your audio experience. And the best visual stories take full advantage of the way sound immerses us in a narrative.ģD audio, the term Sony has coined to describe the proprietary tech in the PS5 that simulates sound coming from all directions, is kind of complicated to explain, but is by no means a novel invention. It’s the most powerful tool a filmmaker or game developer has at their disposal. Video editors and anyone who has worked in post-production will tell you how significant audio is to the process of visual storytelling. Audio, on the other hand, is a different story. I love a beautiful picture, especially when I’m playing a gorgeously designed game like Ghost of Tsushima or The Pathless, but, so long as I can see what’s going on, I couldn't really care less if the game is displayed in HDR, 4K, 8K, 60 fps, etc. Despite being a video editor, I’ve never been much of a framerate or ultra high def nerd. But instead you tell me tough shit if you don’t like it then plug into the tv and console?! Way to make sure you build goodwill towards the company you’re associated with. When I first got wind of the so-called “3D audio” capability of the PS5, I was stoked. All you had to respond with is something like that’s something we’re looking into. I paid for your most expensive headset and I’d like to be able to use all the features for it.Īnd to the Astro community person who replied to me telling if I don’t like it then use something else is a really shitty thing to do. ![]() ![]() Maybe make a more expensive adapter with a cooling system that supports 4K 120fps. If the console offers that it sucks that your adapter doesn’t support it. It doesn’t matter that most games support 4K 120fps. ![]() Knowing Astro wasn’t being lazy and that it’s Sony being a stupid company is reassuring cuz I like your headsets.īut this is a bad outlook have and a bad comment to make. The previous response blaming Sony for the issue built up so good will with me.
